Designed in a modernist style by Kenzo Tange, this church, opened to the public in 1964, is the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese in Tokyo.
With a cross-shaped layout and a floor area of more than 3600 square metres, the gargantuan cathedral is one of the most recognizable places of worship in Tokyo. It replaced an original wooden church, which had been destroyed during the Second World War.
