The shrine enshrines the spirits of Emperor Meiji and Empress Shōken, established in 1920. It is designed in the nagare-zukuri architectural style by the architect Itō Chūta. The site includes a vast forested area and hosts various annual festivals and ceremonies related to Shinto religious practices. Facilities associated with the shrine include the Jingu Gaien and Meiji Kinenkan. The shrine is recognized as an important cultural heritage site and serves as an emergency assembly point.
