The tower was constructed between 1509 and 1523 as part of the medieval Church of Saint-Jacques-de-la-Boucherie. It stands at 54 meters tall and is an outstanding example of Flamboyant Gothic architecture. Originally serving as a bell tower, it is the only part of the church that remains today.
This tower holds significant historical value as a starting point for pilgrims traveling the route to Santiago de Compostela, linking it to important medieval pilgrimage traditions. It is also recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, reflecting its cultural and architectural importance.
Following restoration, the tower is seasonally accessible from spring to autumn, providing insight into medieval Gothic art and architectural heritage. The site features accessible viewing platforms that highlight its detailed stonework and historical associations.
