Originally constructed in 1270, this fortress underwent significant transformations between the 15th and 19th centuries. It has survived historical events including English occupation and the French Wars of Religion. The 19th-century restorations were executed in a neo-Gothic style, complementing the earlier Renaissance elements and medieval defense systems.
The interiors house a 17th-century studiolo featuring painted wooden panels and unique mythological painted decors classified as historical monuments. Rooms are furnished with period pieces and Aubusson tapestries. The site includes interpretation rooms with sound effects and exhibitions dedicated to local legends, such as the White Lady (Dames Blanches).
The castle is open to the public and features indoor and outdoor parcours exploring its architectural history. Audio guides are available in multiple languages to provide context on the site's 800-year history.
