The monument was constructed between 1806 and 1808 as a tribute to Napoleon Bonaparte's military successes. It is designed in the neoclassical architectural style by Pierre-François-Léonard Fontaine and is inspired by Roman triumphal arches. The arch is adorned with marble sculptures of military figures and detailed bas-reliefs depicting battles, emphasizing its historical significance.
The structure includes a quadriga, a chariot drawn by four horses, which adds to its artistic and symbolic value. Access to the terrace is available, providing a vantage point related to the monument's architectural features. The site is wheelchair accessible, ensuring inclusivity in its design.
