The Corso

Originally laid out as a boardwalk in 1854-55, this historic pedestrian mall serves as the primary thoroughfare connecting the ferry wharf to the beach. It has been a pedestrianised area since 1977. The site remains a focal point for commerce and entertainment, attracting millions of people annually.

The precinct is lined with a mix of surf shops, galleries, and boutiques, featuring both global and independent traders. Side-streets surrounding the main thoroughfare offer various restaurants, cafes, and pubs. The area functions as the main shopping precinct and a central hub for social activity.

Public spaces within the mall include fountains, water features, and playgrounds. Street entertainment is a frequent occurrence, with buskers contributing to the atmosphere. High volumes of foot traffic are common throughout the year.
