The complex is a significant example of 17th-century baroque and mannerist architecture, designed in part by Filippo Terzi. It features extensive azulejo tile decorations and a prominent Baroque altar, reflecting its religious and artistic importance. The site serves as a royal pantheon, housing the tombs of the Braganza monarchs, which underscores its historical and cultural relevance. The monastery contains important collections of Portuguese religious art and is recognized for its architectural and historical value as a place of worship and heritage.
