Monument aux Girondins

The monument was constructed between 1894 and 1902 to commemorate the Girondin deputies, a political group persecuted during the Reign of Terror of the French Revolution. It is classified as a national historical monument and represents a blend of historicism and monumental fountain architecture.

A central feature of the structure is a 43-meter column topped by a bronze statue of the Genius of Liberty, reaching a total height of 54 meters. The base is flanked by two monumental fountains featuring large sculptural groups and various allegorical figures.

The design serves as a column, sculpture, and water well. The sculptural elements include bronze figures representing liberty and other allegorical themes, integrated into the site's extensive fountain system.
