This monument commemorates the 16 million Americans who served during World War II and those who sacrificed their lives. Its design includes stone and granite architecture, symbolic columns representing states and territories, triumphal arches, and bronze relief sculptures depicting scenes of war. A central fountain and the Freedom Wall, which contains gold stars honoring fallen soldiers, are prominent features.

The memorial also includes a reflecting pool and walls with bronze reliefs that illustrate various aspects of the war effort. It is open at all hours, providing continuous accessibility and is wheelchair accessible. The combination of architectural elements and sculptural art presents a significant and educational tribute to American history and remembrance.

Completed in 2004, the site is managed by the National Park Service and stands as a national memorial recognizing the collective service and sacrifice of World War II Americans.
