Constructed in 1488, the building served as a weigh station and was part of the city's defensive walls. It has also functioned as a city gate, guildhall, museum, and cultural site, reflecting its varied historical roles. The structure features notable medieval Gothic architecture and holds heritage status.

Currently, the ground floor operates as a café and restaurant offering international cuisine with options including cheese and gluten-free dishes, and the building is wheelchair accessible. It also hosts Waagselskabet, an ICT research fund, integrating contemporary use within its historic framework.

The site preserves its architectural and historical significance, making it a prominent example of 15th-century urban heritage and Gothic design.
