Originally established as a country estate for the noble Pamphili family, this 17th-century villa was later passed to the Doria family. The complex was redesigned by architects Alessandro Algardi and Giovanni Francesco Grimaldi and includes the Casino del Bel Respiro. The site has historical significance related to battles during the Roman Republic's siege and was eventually expropriated by the state, opening to the public in 1972.

The grounds encompass approximately 184 hectares, making it the largest landscaped park in the city. The landscape is characterized by a variety of green spaces, trails, and nature reserves. Notable historical features integrated into the park include fountains, sculptures, and the Necropoli containing the Colombario of Scribonio Menofilo.

The estate houses the Casa dei Teatri within the Villino Corsini, which serves as a venue for live performances. As a less crowded alternative to more central attractions, the park provides a local experience with its extensive gardens and historical sites. The area is accessible and open to the public.
