Shifen Old Street

This lively street is lined with shops, stalls and restaurants. It's located in Pingxi, once a coal mining quarter of the city, which is nowadays most famous for its Sky Lantern Festival. The festival takes place every new lunar year.

This is a great place to visit if you are looking for some budget-friendly souvenirs or something to fill your hungry belly with. Its greatest highlight is the lanterns you can buy here - the street vendors sell them in various colours, each intended to bring luck in a different area of life. Some say that all you need is to write your wishes on the lantern and then release it, the heavens will fulfil them.
