The museum was formerly the home and studio of Peter Paul Rubens, a renowned Flemish Baroque painter. It features a reconstructed Italian-style villa, period furniture, and an extensive collection of artworks by Rubens and other Baroque artists. The building combines Renaissance and Baroque architectural styles, reflecting its historical and artistic significance.

The museum preserves the art collection assembled by Rubens, offering insight into his life and creative environment. It includes a garden and a library, adding to the cultural heritage represented on site. Despite undergoing temporary renovations at times, it provides guided tours to explore its exhibits and architecture.

Designed and influenced by several architects over time, the site stands as a significant cultural monument that illustrates the artistic legacy of the 17th century in the region. Its role as a former private mansion turned museum marks its importance in preserving both art and regional heritage.
