The stadium served as the main site of the 1972 Summer Olympics. This architectural gem, the most prominent part of the Munich Olympic Park Complex, now hosts various sport games and open-air concerts.
The stadium was designed by Günter Behnisch, the author of West German parliament in Bonn, and built inside a crater left by a bomb from the Second World War. At the peak of its glory, it could hold as many as 80,000 people. While the number has gone down a bit since over 69,000 people can still fit in its premises today. From the time it was constructed till now, more than 50 million visitors have passed its gates.
If you want to come by car, it is possible to find a parking slot at the Olympic Tower parking deck, as well as at the Olympic Ice Sport Centre.
