Admission
The aquarium was officially opened in 1998 and is recognized as a cultural heritage site. It was designed by architects Peter Chermayeff, Peter Chermayeff LLC, and Pedro Campos Costa, reflecting a modernist architectural style. The facility is located within Parque das Nações and is wheelchair accessible.
The main attraction is the enormous central tank that houses a variety of marine animals from different ocean habitats, displaying more than 8,000 creatures in total. Notable species include sunfish and sea otters, among others. The aquarium also features specialized thematic areas dedicated to marine ecosystems and conservation.
As a public aquarium and a museum of marine biology, it offers educational displays focusing on marine life and aquatic environments. The site is open to the public and serves as a significant cultural and scientific institution within the city.
