This archaeological complex was built around AD 120 as the luxurious retreat of Emperor Hadrian. The site covers a vast area and includes well-preserved ruins of grand buildings, temples, gardens, pools, and sculptures that reflect a blend of classical architectural styles. Several structures on the site illustrate architectural experiments and incorporate influences from various classical cultures.
The complex is an important example of Roman imperial architecture and landscaping, showcasing the historical and cultural significance of the Roman Empire during Hadrian's reign. It functions as an archaeological park and museum under the Italian Ministry of Culture. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it remains a key reference for studies in Roman history, architecture, and art.
