The Grandmaster's Palace was constructed starting in 1571 under the direction of Girolamo Cassar, showcasing a blend of mannerist and baroque architectural styles. It served as the residence and government office of the Grand Masters of the Knights Hospitaller, a military and religious order.
Throughout its history, the palace has also functioned as a government and parliamentary building. Today, it houses the Office of the President of Malta and operates as a museum displaying exhibits related to Malta's rich history and the Knights of Malta.
The building remains a significant cultural and political landmark and is open to the public. Its dual role as a historic residence and official government office highlights the ongoing importance of the site in Malta's heritage.
