This spacious green area is the inner city's largest park. It's a hugely popular spot for relaxation, a favourite meeting place, as well as a venue of many festivals during the summer, and a monthly design fair.
Originally named after Empress Elisabeth, wife of Emperor Franz Josef, the square has gone through several ideologically-motivated changes of name. For a short period of time, it was called Stalin's square, only to be renamed to Engels' square, and then to finally switch back to the original name in 1990.
The easiest way to get to the square is via subway - just take any of the three lines to the Deák Ferenc square.
