Commemorating the Siamese Revolution of 1932, the monument was built in 1939 by Maeo Aphaiyawong and decorated with relief sculptures by an Italian sculptor Corrado Feroci.
The revolution resulted in the end of the absolute monarchy and brought Siam's first constitution. The monument is very important not only for its role in Thai history but also for its symbolism. These four concrete wings are each 24 meters high - thus signifying the 24th of June, the date the new constitution was signed.
