The building is a distinctive example of neo-futurist architecture, designed by Norman Foster and his firm Foster and Partners. Completed in 2002, it served as the headquarters of the Greater London Authority until December 2021. The structure is recognized for its unique bulb-shaped, knollenartige form rising to a height of 45 meters.
It is a high-tech government building that has been used as a filming location and hosts various civic events and campaigns. It also features a public viewing platform and accessible public spaces including wheelchair access and public toilets.
Currently undergoing refurbishment and redevelopment, the building remains an important modern architectural landmark reflecting London's governance history and innovative design principles.
