The Capitoline Museums consist of a complex of historic palaces situated on the Piazza del Campidoglio, housing extensive collections of ancient Roman sculptures, medieval and Renaissance artworks, and numismatic exhibits. The museums include renowned pieces such as the Capitoline Wolf and the original equestrian statue of Marcus Aurelius, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of Rome. Designed in part by Michelangelo, the museums encompass art and archaeological treasures covering ancient Greece, Rome, and other historical periods, making them among the oldest museums in the world and a significant national monument.
