Bebelplatz

The square was created around 1740 and features rococo-style architecture designed by Peter Joseph Lenné, Eduard Fürstenau, and Georg Wenzeslaus von Knobelsdorff. It is surrounded by significant landmarks such as the Berlin State Opera and St. Hedwig's Cathedral. The site is closely associated with the Nazi book burning event of 1933, and a memorial on the square commemorates this act of persecution and the victims of Nazi censorship. The square also borders Humboldt University, linking it to Berlin’s intellectual and cultural history. It remains an important place of remembrance and historical reflection in the city.
