The Pantheon is a historic neoclassical monument originally constructed as a church in the mid-18th century. It now functions as a mausoleum where 76 distinguished French people are interred, marking it as a significant cultural and historical site. The building is renowned for its architectural beauty, particularly its large dome and statues, which reflect the neoclassical style pioneered by architects Jacques-Germain Soufflot and Jean-Baptiste Rondelet.
Situated on Sainte-Geneviève Hill in the Latin Quarter, the Pantheon combines spiritual, cultural, and memorial functions. Its crypt houses notable burials, and the structure offers panoramic views of the surrounding cityscape. The monument is wheelchair accessible and can be visited indoors, with access included in the Paris Pass.
The Pantheon represents French heritage through its neoclassical design and its role as a resting place for many of the nation’s most distinguished figures. It remains an important historical landmark reflecting French history, architecture, and national memory.
