The palace was constructed in the 19th century and designed by architects Garabet Amira Balyan and Nigoğayos Balyan. It features a blend of architectural styles including Baroque, Rococo, Neoclassical, and Ottoman influences. Originally the residence of Ottoman sultans and later used as a presidential palace, it served as an administrative center of the empire.
The interiors are notable for their opulence, including the largest chandelier ever made. The complex also includes extensive gardens and a Harem section, reflecting the lifestyle and hierarchy of the Ottoman court. The palace holds historical significance as the place where Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of modern Turkey, passed away.
Today, it functions as a museum and cultural landmark, open to the public. Skip-the-line tickets and audio guides are commonly available to facilitate exploration of its rich history and elaborate design.
