The Leaning Tower is a medieval bell tower famous for its nearly four-degree unintended tilt. Constructed beginning in 1173, it stands approximately 58 meters tall and exemplifies Romanesque architectural style, with elements of Gothic design also present. The tower was designed by architects including Bonanno Pisano, Guglielmo, and Diotisalvi.
This freestanding campanile is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site and occupies an area of about 500 square meters. It is renowned not only for its architectural features but also for its engineering significance due to the tilt, which has been a defining characteristic since its construction.
The tower is open to the public and allows access to climb its spiral staircase, providing views of the surrounding Piazza del Duomo. It attracts interest from those studying architectural history, medieval engineering, and cultural heritage.
