This minaret is the most impressive part of the Qutb complex. Its construction was ordered by the first ruler of the Mamluk dynasty, Quṭb al-Dīn Aibak in the 12th century AD. The UNESCO has made it aWorld Heritage Site in 1993.

Towering at the height of 73 metres, the minaret is made out of marble and red sandstone. It took nearly 2 centuries to complete it to the state we can admire today. Levels were added by various rulers, the last of them by Sultan Firuz Shah Tughlaq in the 1370s.
