The Kyoto Station, a huge, 11-storey railway station for normal and bullet trains located in the heart of Kyoto, is the second largest railway station in Japan and a major transportation hub.
When walking through it, you may feel as if you have entered a city within a city, due to its enormous size. Inside, you will find everything you may expect from a shopping mall, souvenir shops, a cinema, grocery and electronics, even a hotel. There are plenty of places to eat at, from big restaurants, to small fast food shops, and if you need to put away your luggage for a while, there are coin lockers as well as a big storage room available. Do not miss the sky garden at the top level floor. It offers an excellent view of the city.
Beware that smoking is forbidden on the station's premises. Also, be prepared to deal with crowds of people here, as the station is truly very busy.
