Cistern of Philoxenos

Constructed in the 4th century, this cistern is the second largest Byzantine water reservoir in the city. It contains 224 columns arranged in rows, exemplifying Byzantine architectural style and engineering techniques. The site functions as both a museum and an exhibition space, highlighting its historical and archaeological significance. It has also been used as a filming location, emphasizing its preserved structural and aesthetic qualities. The cistern is open to the public, allowing direct engagement with an important example of Byzantine urban infrastructure.
