The memorial is a significant historical site commemorating approximately six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust. It consists of 2,711 concrete slabs, also known as stelae, laid out in a precise grid across a large field. Designed by Peter Eisenman, the modernist structure creates a unique architectural experience symbolizing loss and remembrance.

Beneath the field of slabs lies an underground information center that provides detailed exhibitions about the history of the Holocaust and its victims. This center includes a listing of around three million individual Jewish victims, enhancing the memorial's educational and commemorative role.

The site is open 24 hours a day and is free of charge. It supports wheelchair accessibility and offers guided tours, exhibitions, and educational programs, making it a central place for reflection and learning about Jewish culture and World War II history.
