This impressive gate was part of the 13th-century wall fortifications and it is the best preserved gate of the historical center of the city. The walls were erected by various architects including Arnolfo di Cambio, Orcagna or Giotto. It features a marble statue of Michelangelo Pistoletto, Italian painter and art theorist.
