The site covers 48 hectares and consists of a historic complex of former shipyards and armories, representing one of the earliest large-scale industrial complexes in Europe. It was a symbol of maritime power and played a crucial role in naval history through mass ship production. Architect Alessandro Tremignon contributed to its architectural development.
Today, the complex functions as an event venue, exhibition space, naval museum, and research center, highlighting both its industrial heritage and contemporary cultural use. Large open spaces within the complex accommodate cultural events and exhibitions, integrating historical architecture with modern activities. Part of the site is also dedicated to museum and exhibition purposes, combining naval history with contemporary art.
The complex's significance lies in its dual role as a former naval base and industrial hub, as well as a cultural heritage site that preserves Venice's maritime legacy. It remains an important example of naval architecture and industrial design from the Venetian Republic era.
