State Hall of the Austrian National Library

One of the most beautiful libraries in the world, it contains whopping 7.4 million items and it is among the most visited attractions in Vienna.

The establishment is divided into a library and a museum. The library part is what you'd expect: all kinds of books from research, history, religion to modern literature. The oldest book that found shelter here is the Holy Gospels from 1368. The museum has various temporary exhibitions related to the history of Vienna or the Habsburgs (who were one of the influencers during that time).

The State Hall, which is a part of the library, is an astounding, 80 metres long hall with various frescos on its walls, that are guaranteed to take your breath away. The attention to detail and the artistic expression are something that catches the attention of anyone, not just art lovers. The whole building is built in Baroque architectonic style, and the second you step in, you are going to feel like you went back in time while adoring the well-preserved surroundings.

The library part of the building is not open to tourists; you must have a membership to be able to go there. This establishment lies between Museumsquartier metro station (line U2), and Stephansplatz (lines U1 and U3) and is a 10-minute walk away from both.
