The castle was constructed between 1856 and 1860 for Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian of Austria, embodying the Gothic Revival architectural style designed by Carl Junker. Positioned on a rocky cliff overlooking the Gulf, it spans approximately 2000 square meters and is recognized as a national monument.
Surrounding the castle is a large park that includes botanical gardens with valuable and exotic plant species, contributing to its scenic and natural significance. The interiors preserve original furnishings and artifacts that reflect its imperial past.
Since 1955, the castle has operated as a state museum, offering cultural and historical exhibitions related to the Austrian Archduke and the Romantic era. Its combination of architectural elegance, historical importance, and natural beauty defines its character and heritage.
