The building dates back to the 13th century and has undergone multiple architectural transformations, including Renaissance, Baroque, and Classicist styles. Architect Carlo Lurago is associated with its historical design. It is the only privately owned structure in the surrounding complex, belonging to the Lobkowicz family. The museum and collections are open to the public.

The interior houses the Lobkowicz Collections, which represent one of the oldest and largest private art collections in Europe. The museum displays works by renowned artists such as Pieter Bruegel the Elder, Canaletto, and Diego Velázquez. Beyond paintings, the collection includes medieval art, arms and armor, and various decorative arts that illustrate key events in Czech and European history.

Significant musical artifacts are also preserved here, including original scores and manuscripts by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Ludwig van Beethoven. The palace serves as a cultural venue, hosting classical music concerts and providing access to a gallery and a café. The building's position provides panoramic views of the city.
