Château d'Azay-le-Rideau

This French Renaissance château was constructed between 1518 and 1527 on an island in the Indre river. Originally a medieval fortress, it was rebuilt for Gilles Berthelot, a wealthy financier, under the patronage of King François I. The structure serves as a national monument and is a prominent example of early 16th-century architecture.
