Lesser Town

Lesser Town is one of the most historic districts of Prague with a plethora of Renaissance bourgeois houses, Baroque palaces and narrow lanes. Some of the points of interest in this area include Wallenstein Palace, St. Nicholas Church and Church of Our Lady Victorious which houses a famous statue of the Child of Prague. One of the most renowned Czech writers, Jan Neruda, lived in the neighbourhood and there is a street named after him now.

Founded in 1257, it was called "Little" or "Lesser" due to its location and size. Whereas on the right bank of the Vltava River, there were larger towns of Prague, this little one occupied the left bank. Hence the name.
