The street originates from an ancient Roman road and has been a significant thoroughfare since at least 1820. It is situated within the 1,810 hectares of the city recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007. The surrounding area showcases classical and neoclassical architecture, including historical monuments, private mansions, and harmonious facades.
