This ruined medieval castle served as the fief of the Viscountcy of Turenne until 1738. Its historical significance dates back to the 7th century, during which it played a role in various conflicts between French powers. The site is recognized as a national monument and a listed landmark.

Remaining structures include the ramparts and two prominent towers: the Tour de César and the Tour du Trésor. A hanging garden is located on the grounds, providing a space for philosophical walks. The site houses exhibitions dedicated to the Vicomtes of Turenne—the former ruling lords of the region—and a collection of ancient coins.

Guided tours and sensory workshops are available on-site. Seasonal programming features events such as the Musicales de Turenne and Dîners dans le Ciel.
